Syria develops new plan to prevent further attacks, ensure stability
Syria’s security services have drawn up a new plan aimed at preventing further attacks by armed supporters of the Assad regime, officials from the country’s new authorities said.
Hassan Abdul Ghani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, revealed the strategy, emphasizing that the new measures are designed to ensure the ongoing stability and well-being of Syrian citizens, as well as to safeguard national security, Caliber.Az reports citing Syrian media.
"In the coming phase, the security services will take measures to intensify their efforts to ensure the stability and well-being of citizens and maintain security in the country,” Abdul Ghani said.
"They have developed a new plan in order to continue the fight against the remaining supporters of the former regime and to eliminate any threats of similar events recurring in the future, as well as to prevent the reorganization of criminal cells," he added.
Abdul Ghani further assured the public that a special committee had been set up to investigate the recent attacks, stressing that the committee would be provided with every opportunity to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incidents, verify the facts, and restore justice to those affected.
Intense battles between forces of Syria's transitional government and fighters loyal to the ousted leader Bashar al-Assad continued last week in parts of northwestern Syria. The ongoing violence, which has claimed hundreds of lives—including many civilians—marks the deadliest clashes since opposition forces ousted al-Assad in a swift offensive last year.
The clashes erupted on March 7, following a series of attacks and ambushes in Latakia and Tartous governorates, regions that are home to the Alawite minority sect to which the al-Assad family belongs.
Syria's interim President, Ahmed al-Sharaa, who led the rebel alliance that removed al-Assad from power, called on the fighters to "lay down their weapons and surrender." He also warned that anyone responsible for attacking civilians would be held accountable.
In response to the escalating violence, the interim government has imposed a curfew and deployed additional reinforcements to restore order.
