Syria: Three killed in explosion at Baniyas thermal power plant

Three people have been killed in an explosion at a thermal power plant in Baniyas, Tartus province, Syria, according to the Syrian media, citing medical sources.

The victims were workers at the plant who were killed when one of the tanks used for electricity generation exploded during maintenance work.

The agency had earlier reported an explosion at the power plant, saying the circumstances were being investigated.

The Tartus provincial health directorate said the bodies of the three victims were taken to Baniyas Hospital.
