Syrian authorities foil Captagon smuggling operation PHOTO
Syrian anti-narcotics authorities have intercepted a major shipment of Captagon pills concealed in shoes and horse saddles and destined for Saudi Arabia.
In a statement posted on its Telegram channel, the Interior Ministry said the seizure followed monitoring and inspections at shipping and export companies, leading to the confiscation of approximately 180,000 pills.
Authorities also arrested a suspect identified as “M.J.”, who has been referred for further investigation.
The operation comes amid intensified efforts by Syrian security forces to combat drug trafficking networks. Earlier this month, on February 15, Syrian border guards thwarted another smuggling attempt along the Lebanese border in the Zabadani area of rural Damascus.
