Syrian security forces have carried out a second operation targeting ISIS members in the Damascus area, killing a senior ISIS figure known as the “Wali of Hauran.”
The Interior Ministry said specialised units, working alongside the General Intelligence Directorate and in coordination with international coalition forces, conducted a precise raid in the town of Al-Buweida near Qatana, southwest of Damascus, SANA reports.
The operation, based on verified intelligence and careful surveillance, resulted in the neutralisation of Mohammed Shahadeh, also known as Abu Omar Shaddad, a senior ISIS commander who posed a direct threat to local security and civilian safety.
Authorities emphasised that the operation highlights effective coordination between Syrian national security agencies and international partners and is part of ongoing efforts to preemptively strike terrorist groups, strengthen stability, and protect civilians.
This follows a previous operation on December 24 in Maadamiya, southwest of Damascus, where internal security forces arrested the local ISIS leader, known as the “Wali of Damascus,” along with several aides.
