Syrian President Al-Sharaa meets King Abdullah in Jordan for key talks on regional security
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has arrived in Jordan on February 26 for an official visit, where he was greeted at Marka Airport in Amman by King Abdullah II of Jordan.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and other senior officials accompanied President al-Sharaa during the visit, Caliber.Az reports via Arab media.
The two leaders engaged in discussions focusing on regional developments, as well as strengthening bilateral ties between Syria and Jordan.
Key areas of focus included boosting economic cooperation and addressing security concerns, particularly the management of the border to counter the flow of drugs entering Jordan from Syria.
King Abdullah praised the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, calling it a crucial step in rebuilding Syria in line with the aspirations of its people.
He emphasised the importance of enhanced coordination to address border security and combat arms and drug smuggling, while reiterating Jordan's support for Syria’s return to an active role in the Arab world.
The King also stressed the need for conditions conducive to the safe and voluntary return of Syrian refugees. In response, Syrian Foreign Minister Sharaa expressed gratitude for Jordan’s support of Syria’s reconstruction and stability under King Abdullah’s leadership.
