Syrian president arrives in UK for official visit
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived in London on March 31 for an official visit to the United Kingdom, accompanied by a ministerial delegation, following the conclusion of his trip to Germany.
According to the presidential media office, al-Sharaa is scheduled to hold talks with senior British officials aimed at advancing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports per SANA.
Relations between Syria and the United Kingdom have gained renewed momentum since Syria’s liberation in December 2024. In July last year, President al-Sharaa hosted UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy in Damascus, where discussions focused on strengthening ties as well as addressing regional and international developments.
In November, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani visited London for meetings with British officials on the future of bilateral relations. During that visit, the Syrian embassy in London formally resumed operations after a 14-year closure.
The London trip follows al-Sharaa’s official visit to Germany, where he met with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and other senior officials. Talks there centered on enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
