Syrian president pays first official US visit since 1967

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, serving in a transitional capacity, has arrived in Washington to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Syria TV, this marks the first official visit by a Syrian president to the United States since 1967.

The channel reports that al-Sharaa is accompanied by four ministers. The visit is expected to provide an opportunity to discuss the restoration of diplomatic relations between Syria and the United States, including the official reopening of the Syrian embassy in Washington.
