Syrian president signals readiness to support Lebanon settlement efforts

Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa has expressed readiness to help find solutions that could contribute to peace and stability in neighbouring Lebanon, he said in an interview with Al Mashhad TV.

According to the Syrian leader, Damascus is interested in resolving issues related to the activities of Hezbollah and is open to negotiations if they help achieve a mutually beneficial outcome. Al-Sharaa stressed that Lebanon needs broad political consensus to overcome its current crisis.

He also highlighted the importance of finding solutions that would ensure the security of the Shia community and help prevent further internal polarisation.

Commenting on remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding Syria’s possible role in resolving the situation in Lebanon, the Syrian president said the comments did not refer to military intervention. According to al-Sharaa, Trump was speaking about Damascus participating in efforts to find a peaceful and secure solution, but those remarks were misinterpreted.
