Syrian, US officials hold talks on sidelines of Munich security conference
A Syrian delegation led by Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on February 13 during the Munich Security Conference, holding discussions focused on domestic and regional developments.
According to officials, the meeting addressed key issues concerning Syria’s political and security landscape, with both sides reaffirming the importance of preserving Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, SANA reports.
The U.S. delegation expressed support for the Syrian government’s recent integration agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as well as Damascus’ ongoing efforts to combat the Islamic State group (ISIS). The talks highlighted the significance of coordination in counterterrorism initiatives amid continued security challenges in parts of Syria.
In addition to security matters, the discussions covered bilateral relations and explored avenues to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.
The meeting took place on the margins of the annual Munich Security Conference, a major international forum where global leaders convene to address pressing security and foreign policy issues.
