Tajikistan’s bank restricts remotely opened cards for some Russian customers

Humo Bank in Tajikistan has warned some Russian customers and other non-residents that cards opened remotely will be restricted unless they complete biometric identification at a bank branch in Tajikistan by September 30.

According to one customer, the bank said the identification requirement was introduced to protect against fraudulent transactions. Customers who do not complete the procedure will have their cards blocked from October 1, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

The customer said bank support informed her that services would be restricted for certain categories of non-residents whose cards had been opened online and advised her to withdraw funds from her account by October 1.

She said she had opened an account remotely in April 2025 and was trying to transfer about €300, but the funds were neither reaching the receiving account nor being returned. She added that other customers had reported similar problems.

Humo Bank said that after visiting Tajikistan in person and completing the identification procedure, customers could receive a new card for the duration of their legal stay in the country, but for no longer than one year.
