Tasnim: US agrees to temporary suspension of Iran oil sanctions
A source close to Iran’s negotiating team has told Iran's Tasnim news agency that the United States has agreed to a temporary suspension of sanctions on Iranian oil exports during ongoing negotiations.
According to the source, the OFAC “Waive” mechanism would serve as a temporary exemption allowing limited transactions involving Iranian oil until a final agreement is reached. Iran, however, continues to insist that Washington must commit to a full lifting of all sanctions, while the U.S. has only proposed a temporary suspension pending a comprehensive deal.
Earlier, a Pakistani source told Reuters that Islamabad had conveyed a revised Iranian proposal to the United States aimed at ending the broader Middle East conflict.
U.S. President Donald Trump had previously warned Iran that the “clock is ticking,” amid reports in Iranian media that Washington had not made concrete concessions in response to Tehran’s latest proposals.
Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency reported on May 17 that the United States had presented five conditions in response to Iran’s proposal. These reportedly include a demand that Iran retain only one nuclear facility in operation and transfer its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to the United States.
On May 15, Trump said he would be willing to accept a 20-year suspension of Iran’s nuclear programme — a key issue in negotiations.
