Tehran, Havana coordinate on bilateral ties, global developments

The foreign ministers of Iran and Cuba held a telephone conversation to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and global developments.

During the call, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, and Bruno Rodríguez, Cuba’s foreign minister, discussed existing capacities for expanding cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. They also emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and consultation within international organizations, Mehr News Agency reports.

Araghchi strongly condemned what he described as the United States’ military aggression against Venezuela, calling it “a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and the fundamental principles of international law.” He stressed the responsibility of all governments and the United Nations to adopt “a firm and explicit stance against this dangerous lawlessness.”

The Iranian foreign minister also praised the Cuban government and people for their resilience in the face of “illegal economic pressures and external threats,” commending their steadfastness despite sustained challenges.

For his part, Rodríguez condemned the “illegal and destabilizing actions of the United States in the Caribbean and Latin America,” with particular reference to what he described as the recent unlawful aggression against Venezuela and the abduction of its president and his spouse.

He reaffirmed Cuba’s determination to stand firm against any external threats and underscored the necessity of cooperation and coordination among friendly nations to counter what he termed “aggressive unilateralism.”
