Thailand imposes curfew in Trat Province amid escalating clashes with Cambodia
Thai authorities have imposed a curfew in the southeastern province of Trat after fighting with Cambodia spread to coastal areas of the disputed border region, Reuters reports.
The decision comes two days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that both sides had agreed to a ceasefire.
Rear Admiral Surasan Kongsiri, spokesperson for Thailand’s Ministry of Defence, stated that “clashes continue unabated,” despite Cambodia’s confirmed readiness to halt hostilities. He emphasised that Thailand remains open to a diplomatic resolution, but “Cambodia must first cease its hostility before we can begin negotiations.”
According to military sources, on December 13, Thai forces destroyed a bridge used by Cambodia to transport heavy weaponry and equipment into the area, and launched operations targeting artillery positions in the coastal province of Koh Kong.
