Thousands added to Hiroshima’s historic list of atomic bomb victims

The list of victims of the US atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Hiroshima has been updated with the names of 4,393 people over the past year, bringing the total number of registered victims to 353,639, TASS reports, citing Kyodo.

The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, killed between 70,000 and 100,000 people on the day of the attack, according to various estimates. By the end of that year, the death toll had risen to 140,000 as victims of injuries and radiation exposure died in hospitals.

The list of victims is updated every year as survivors of the US atomic bombings of Japan pass away. It also includes people who died during the attack itself but whose deaths had not previously been officially confirmed.

The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were carried out by the United States Armed Forces at the very end of World War II.
