Thousands march in Madrid to support Ceuta, demand early elections

Thousands of people joined a march in central Madrid in support of the autonomous city of Ceuta and to demand early general elections, a TASS correspondent reports from the scene.

The demonstration was organised by the Spanish Civil Society movement and began near the square where Madrid City Hall is located. Many participants carried Spanish flags.

The protesters also chanted slogans against Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and in support of Ceuta, which is facing a migration crisis.

Supporters of the opposition People’s Party (PP) and the Vox party also said they would join the demonstration.

PP Secretary-General Miguel Tellado wrote on X that “Spain is suffering under a government that poses a threat to democracy.”
