Top Netanyahu aide warns Iran still holds "thousands" of ballistic missiles
Israel’s National Security Adviser, Tzachi Hanegbi, has revealed that Iran continues to possess “thousands of ballistic missiles,” exceeding earlier estimates.
Hanegbi cautioned that the conflict is unlikely to end the Iranian missile threat in the long term, Caliber.Az reports per Israeli media.
Previously, military analysts estimated Iran’s arsenal at around 1,500 to 2,000 missiles. Despite hundreds having been fired and others destroyed by Israeli strikes, Iran’s stockpile remains substantial.
Note that Iran launched missile strikes on Israeli cities Tel Aviv and Haifa on June 16, 2025, killing at least five people and injuring over 100.
The attacks destroyed homes and critical infrastructure, including a power plant near Haifa, sparking fires and damage near the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv. Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed to use a new strategy that disrupted Israel's defence systems.
In response, Israel reported striking Iranian Revolutionary Guard command centres and military targets. So far, at least 224 people have died in Iran, most of them civilians.
As world leaders gather for the G7 summit in Canada, the escalating Israel-Iran conflict dominates discussions. Leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and U.S. President Donald Trump, stressed preventing nuclear weapon development and promoting de-escalation.
Trump reportedly vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Iran's Supreme Leader and warned Iran not to target U.S. assets despite denying direct U.S. involvement.
