Tragic blaze at Spanish retirement home leaves 10 dead, several injured

At least 10 people have tragically lost their lives after a devastating fire tore through a Spanish care home while residents were asleep.

The fire broke out at around 5am on November 15 at the Jardines de Villafranca retirement home in Villafranca de Ebro, located near the northern city of Zaragoza, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

At the time, 82 people were inside, according to regional authorities.

Two individuals have been left in a critical condition following the blaze, while the remaining residents managed to escape. It is not yet confirmed whether the deceased and those injured were residents or staff members.

The retirement home situated in a rural area, is now the scene of a major investigation.
