TRT Haber: Baku - ideal platform for global unity in tackling climate crisis

11 November 2024 12:48

The Turkish media outlet TRT Haber, in its report, calls Baku the "ideal platform for uniting the world around the common goal of fighting the climate crisis."

The broadcaster informs its audience that heads of state, governments, scientists, and environmental activists from around the world have gathered in Baku to discuss concrete steps in tackling climate change, Caliber.Az reports.

The report adds that the outcomes of COP29 will demonstrate to the world whether countries have the resolve to initiate a genuine, united effort to combat the climate crisis.

The agenda for the historic COP29 includes critical topics such as global reduction of atmospheric emissions, strategies for adapting to climate change, and ensuring "climate justice."

With time running out to counter the ecological crisis, the global community expects productive discussions in Baku.

Scientists are sounding the alarm, with warnings that if greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced, global warming could exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2030, triggering catastrophic consequences.

It is anticipated that during the summit, countries will update their climate targets and adopt new joint solutions. The issue of climate finance, especially between developed and developing countries, will also be a focal point of the discussions.

COP29 holds significant relevance for countries in the region. "Azerbaijan is taking decisive steps to reform its national economy, develop its non-oil sector, and increase investments in renewable energy sources. Baku aims to become a role model for countries in the region in terms of energy transformation and environmental sustainability," the report states.

The report also highlights that there is hope that the COP29 summit will serve as a turning point. However, it stresses that time is running out to reduce carbon emissions, adapt to climate change, accelerate the transition to renewable energy, and collectively address losses and damages.
