Trump calls Iran’s attacks on Arab states "biggest surprise"
President Donald Trump described Iran’s recent attacks on Arab countries in the region as “the biggest surprise” so far, during an interview with CNN.
Referring to strikes against Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, Trump said, “We were surprised. We told them, ‘We’ve got this,’ and now they want to fight. And they’re aggressively fighting. They were going to be very little involved and now they insist on being involved.”
Commenting on the Arab leaders, the president added, “I know these people. They’re tough and smart.”
Trump also criticized the Iranian strikes, noting, “They shot into a hotel, they shot into an apartment house. It just made them angry. They love us, but they were watching. There was no reason for them to be involved.” He emphasized that Iran’s attacks on the Arab states represented “probably the biggest surprise.”
The president highlighted the ongoing threat posed by Iran’s nuclear program, calling it a longstanding challenge for regional stability. “You have to understand, they were living under that dark cloud for years. That’s why you could never have peace,” Trump said.
