Trump congratulates Ukraine on Independence Day and calls for peace PHOTO
U.S. President Donald Trump has sent a congratulatory letter to Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
Zelenskyy published Trump’s letter on the social media platform X, per Caliber.Az.
On behalf of the American people, Trump extended “warmest wishes to the courageous people of Ukraine,” noting that the Ukrainians’ “unbreakable spirit” and the country’s “courage inspire many.”
“The United States respects your fight, honors your sacrifices, and believes in your future as an independent nation,” the letter said.
The American president also stated that the time had come “to bring an end to senseless killing” and voiced support for negotiations that would “lead to durable, lasting peace that ends the bloodshed, and safeguards Ukraine’s sovereignty and dignity.”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Trump for his congratulations and emphasised that “Ukraine values the support of the United States in defending independence, freedom, and peace.”
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also congratulated the people of Ukraine on Independence Day on behalf of the United States of America, noting the importance of resolving the conflict through negotiations.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Ukraine as you commemorate your 34th Independence Day.
The United States is committed to Ukraine’s future as an independent nation. We believe in a negotiated settlement that upholds Ukrainian sovereignty and guarantees its long-term security, leading to durable peace. On this Independence Day, as you pay tribute to your nation’s history, the United States looks forward to continuing to build on our economic and security partnership for a peaceful, prosperous future for both our nations,” he said.
