Gold mine collapse in Cameroon kills around 100
Around 100 people have been killed after a rock collapse at a gold mine in Zamboua, in eastern Cameroon.
Search and rescue operations are underway at the site, while the full scale of the disaster has yet to be established, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
A large number of people were inside the mine when the collapse occurred. Rescue workers are operating in difficult conditions, with debris being cleared by hand because of concerns that heavy machinery could trigger further collapses in mine tunnels that remain intact.
The incident took place in a gold-producing area near the border with the Central African Republic.
Workers from the Central African Republic, Chad, Burkina Faso and Mali are also active in the area, which could further complicate the identification of those killed.
