Trump hints at call with Putin to end war with Ukraine
US President Donald Trump has said that he “may” call Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ending the war in Ukraine, signaling a potential breakthrough in diplomatic engagement.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One as he departed Abu Dhabi, Trump stated, “We have to meet. He and I will meet”, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He added: “I think we’ll solve it, or maybe not, but at least we’ll know. And if we don’t solve it, it will be very interesting”.
Earlier that day, Trump had confirmed plans to meet Putin “as soon as we can set it up,” just as trilateral peace talks involving Ukraine, Russia, and Türkiye kicked off in Istanbul. Ahead of these negotiations, the United States and Russia held a brief preliminary meeting.
According to reporters traveling with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a 15-minute discussion took place between State Department Director for Policy Planning Michael Anton and Kremlin aide Vladimir Medinsky.
