Trump: Iran releases wrongfully detained American in goodwill gesture PHOTO
U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran has allowed an American citizen who had been detained since December 2024 to leave the country, describing the move as a "gesture of goodwill" by Tehran amid heightened tensions between the two nations.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Dena Karari, whom he described as having been "wrongfully detained" under former President Joe Biden's administration, had safely left Iran and was in good condition.
"Iran has allowed an American Citizen, who was wrongfully detained in December of 2024 under the 'presidency' of Sleepy Joe Biden, to leave the Country. The United States of America appreciates this gesture of Goodwill by Iran!"
According to Trump, she is now safely outside of Iran, and in good condition.

Karari, has left Iran after being unable to depart the country since December 2024 due to what her attorney described as "bogus charges." Attorney Jared Genser said she is now safe and travelling back to the United States.
Karari was never formally charged or imprisoned but had been subjected to an Iranian exit ban that prevented her from leaving the country. Although the restriction officially expired in April, Iranian authorities continued to block her departure. She reportedly suffered a heart attack on July 8.
President Donald Trump confirmed that Iran had released a U.S. citizen, calling the move a "gesture of goodwill" by Tehran. According to reports, Karari's case had been raised by U.S. officials during diplomatic contacts with Iran.
Her release comes as several Americans remain detained in Iran and was not part of the recent U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, which focused on extending a temporary ceasefire between the two countries.
