Trump rejects Zelenskyy’s claim of Russian ceasefire violation “It’s a lie”
US President Donald Trump has effectively dismissed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s claims that Russia violated agreements on an energy truce, calling them a “lie,” as reported by Clash Report.
The U.S. president said that the ceasefire lasted “from Sunday to Sunday, and it opened up and hit them hard last night. He [Putin] kept his word on that.”
Trump added: “It’s a lie” that Zelenskyy said Russia violated the truce, emphasizing that the agreed period was without strikes. ”One week will take anything because its realy realy cold over there.”
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia had violated the agreements by ending the energy truce overnight, despite the fact that, according to his version, it was supposed to last until February 7. However, Trump confirmed the Kremlin’s position, asserting that the ceasefire did indeed remain in effect until Sunday, February 1.
Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a temporary pause in attacks on Ukrainian cities (particularly Kyiv and various towns) and energy infrastructure at the personal request of U.S. President Donald Trump, as announced by Trump on January 29, 2026, during a televised Cabinet meeting at the White House.
Trump stated: "I personally asked President Putin not to fire into Kyiv and the various towns for a week, and he agreed to do that." He framed the request as a humanitarian measure due to "extraordinary cold" weather gripping Ukraine (temperatures dropping to -20°C/-4°F or lower, causing severe hardship amid prior damage to power grids from Russian strikes).
