"Trump Route" takes centre stage in high-level Armenia–Romania talks
Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan met with a Romanian delegation headed by Titus Corlățean, Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Romanian Senate.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, the meeting was announced by Armenia’s Security Council.
Grigoryan welcomed the Romanian delegation to Yerevan, stressing the importance of regular high-level contacts and the need to deepen Armenian-Romanian cooperation. Corlățean expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed Romania’s readiness to further strengthen ties, noting the centuries-old friendship between the two nations.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on the evolving peace process in the South Caucasus and discussed the implementation of the communication initiative known as “Trump’s Road to International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP).
The meeting took place against the backdrop of the trilateral summit held on August 8, 2025, at the White House and hosted by US President Donald Trump, marking a major diplomatic breakthrough in Armenia–Azerbaijan relations. At that summit, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and President Trump initialled a preliminary peace declaration under the TRIPP framework.
The Washington summit, the first of its kind since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, resulted in a joint declaration affirming the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the renunciation of force. It also laid the groundwork for a draft peace agreement titled “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia,” which was initialled by the foreign ministers of both countries.
A key outcome of the summit was the decision to create the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” — widely associated with the concept of the Zangezur Corridor. The planned transit corridor would link mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave via Armenian territory, expanding opportunities for regional connectivity, trade, and international transport.
