Trump’s crackdown pushes nearly 1 million illegal immigrants out of US
Approximately one million undocumented immigrants have left the United States since President Donald Trump began intensifying efforts to curb illegal migration earlier this year.
An independent research organisation, the Migration Research Centre, citing data from the US Bureau of Labour Statistics, noted a significant decline in the foreign population, Caliber.Az reports.
Their analysis shows that between January and May 2025, the number of foreign nationals — both employed and unemployed — fell by nearly 957,000.
Preliminary estimates suggest that by May 2025, there were around 14.8 million undocumented migrants living in the US, down from 15.8 million at the start of the year.
Experts believe this decline is linked to the increased enforcement measures introduced following Mr Trump’s inauguration.
The President declared a state of emergency on the US-Mexico border and pledged to launch the largest deportation operation in American history.
The Migration Research Centre’s report indicates that many undocumented migrants have left the country in response to these heightened efforts by US authorities to remove illegal immigrants.
