Trump’s special envoy heads to Munich to forge alliances on Ukraine peace efforts

05 February 2025 18:40

Keith Kellogg, the US President Donald Trump’s Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, is set to attend the Munich Security Conference, scheduled from February 14 to 16, 2025.

Kellogg announced his participation in a post on X (Twitter) on February, per Caliber.Az.

He shared his anticipation for the event, stating, “As the US President’s Special Representative for Russia and Ukraine, I look forward to talking about Donald Trump’s goal to end the bloody and costly war in Ukraine. I will meet with America’s allies who are willing to work with us.”

According to report by The Wall Street Journal, Trump has tasked Kellogg with resolving the Ukraine conflict within 100 days. While Trump initially suggested during his campaign that the war could be settled in less than a day, he acknowledged on January 7 that a resolution might take longer. Kellogg has expressed his intent to meet the 100-day target.

On January 21, Trump also indicated that he might halt US arms supplies to Ukraine, while remaining open to meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin “at any time.” However, Trump also stated that the US could impose tougher sanctions on Russia if it fails to agree to a deal on Ukraine.

Kellogg later emphasized that President Trump “knows where to push and where not to push,” expressing hope that the conflict could be resolved within months.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that Moscow is open to dialogue with the new US administration over the Ukrainian conflict, underscoring the importance of addressing the root causes of the crisis. Putin also noted that Russia is attentive to Trump’s statements about restoring diplomatic contacts and preventing a third world war.

The Munich Security Conference has been held annually in Munich since 1963, with few exceptions.

US Vice President JD Vance is also expected to attend the conference. Notably, the far-right Alternative for Germany party and the populist Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance (ASV) were not invited to this year’s event.
