Trump says US to exit Iran "pretty quickly," keeps door open for strikes
US President Donald Trump said that American forces would leave Iran “pretty quickly,” while leaving open the possibility of returning for limited strikes if necessary.
Speaking to Reuters ahead of a scheduled primetime address, Trump declined to provide a clear timeline for ending US involvement in the conflict. “I can’t tell you exactly … we’re going to be out pretty quickly,” he said.
The president also asserted that recent US actions had neutralised Iran’s nuclear capabilities. “They won’t have a nuclear weapon because they are incapable of that now, and then I’ll leave, and I’ll take everybody with me, and if we have to we’ll come back to do spot hits,” Trump added.
In addition to outlining his approach to Iran, Trump voiced strong criticism of NATO, expressing dissatisfaction with what he described as insufficient support for US objectives in the conflict. He said he was “absolutely” considering an attempt to withdraw the United States from the alliance.
