Trump suggests letting allies take responsibility for Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump has proposed a more hands-off approach to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
“I wonder what would happen if we ‘finished off’ what’s left of the Iranian Terror State, and let the Countries that use it, we don’t, be responsible for the so called ‘Straight?’ That would get some of our non-responsive ‘Allies’ in gear, and fast!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, Caliber.Az reports.
His comments come amid earlier push back from European countries including the UK on Trump’s demands to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz by force after Iran shut down the majority of shipping through the critical trade route.
Most shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway for global oil and gas transport that supplies roughly one-fifth of the world’s crude oil, has been halted since early March, after the war started. About 20 vessels have been attacked in the area.
