Trump to attend Davos with record US delegation

20 January 2026 12:52

US President Donald Trump is set to arrive at the World Economic Forum in Davos, leading the largest American delegation in the event’s history, according to sources familiar with the plans. The delegation is expected to include more than 300 officials and administration staff.

Organisers say the forum will bring together around 1,300 participants this year, including political leaders, business executives and representatives of non-governmental organisations, Bild writes.

The gathering is expected to focus on major global geopolitical and economic challenges. Trump’s personal attendance is being viewed by observers as a signal of his political influence, and he is expected to outline his vision for a new global and economic order.

Among the key issues likely to dominate discussions are tensions over Greenland and the possibility of new US tariffs. European leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, are hoping for direct talks with Trump to help defuse these disputes. Merz has previously said that Europe possesses tools it would prefer not to use, but would be prepared to do so if necessary, while emphasising his hope of reaching a common solution through dialogue.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also expected to play an active role at the forum, seeking to reinvigorate discussions on possible ways to end the war in Ukraine. However, analysts caution that despite high-level personal contacts, significant or rapid breakthroughs are unlikely to emerge from the Davos meetings.
