Trump to unveil new Gaza peace plan at meeting with Arab, Muslim leaders
US President Donald Trump, accompanied by special envoy Steve Witkoff, is set to present a comprehensive plan aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza during a multilateral meeting with Arab and Muslim leaders.
The meeting, convened at the White House, will include representatives from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Türkiye, Indonesia, and Pakistan, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
According to American officials, Trump’s proposed plan is expected to focus on several critical elements: the release of all hostages, a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and establishing a framework for post-war governance in Gaza that excludes Hamas. The plan also calls for Arab countries to contribute financially to reconstruction efforts and potentially deploy ground forces to support the implementation of the agreement.
An Israeli official confirmed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is aware of aspects of the plan and may have to accept some of its provisions. Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Trump at the White House shortly to discuss the details.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that the discussion would center on the ongoing Gaza conflict and the pathway toward peace. A source familiar with the talks revealed that Trump will present his vision for both the immediate ceasefire and the longer-term governance structure in Gaza.
This initiative comes amid growing international pressure and humanitarian crises in Gaza, where Israeli military operations since October 2023 have resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, widespread displacement, and a severe starvation crisis. Rights groups and a UN inquiry have described the situation as potentially amounting to genocide.
The conflict was triggered by a Hamas attack in October 2023 that killed 1,200 Israelis and resulted in over 250 hostages. Israel responded with extensive military action, including strikes beyond Gaza’s borders.
Trump, who had earlier pledged a swift resolution to the conflict, has faced criticism as the war enters its ninth month. His previous proposals, including a controversial plan for US administration of Gaza and forced Palestinian displacement, were condemned internationally as violations of international law.
On September 23, Trump will also address the UN General Assembly, a day after world leaders voiced support for a two-state solution, a stance opposed by Israel as rewarding extremism.
