Trump urges Ukraine to act quickly as Russia stands ready
US President Donald Trump expressed hope for a swift resolution to the crisis in Ukraine, urging Kyiv to act quickly as Russia stands ready.
During a briefing with journalists at the White House, he noted that the parties are “getting close to something” but stressed that Kyiv must act promptly, Caliber.Az reports.
“I hope Ukraine moves quickly because Russia is there. Everytime they take too much land, Russia changes their mind,” the american leader emphasised.
The president added that, in his view, each delay by the Ukrainian side prompts Russia to change its position, highlighting the need for prompt decision-making to advance the settlement process.
High-level diplomacy has intensified, with multiple ongoing initiatives focusing on security guarantees for Ukraine and resolving territorial disputes.
European and US officials recently held Berlin talks with Ukraine, where German Chancellor Friedrich Merz described a real chance for a peace process and discussed potential ceasefire mechanisms and security guarantees.
United Nations members adopted resolutions outlining principles for a just and lasting peace, calling for respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and withdrawal of forces, reflecting broad international consensus on key peace objectives.
Past direct talks between Kyiv and Moscow have seen limited results, with negotiations paused at times due to lack of progress and disagreements over territorial control and ceasefire terms, underscoring the difficulty of reaching a diplomatic settlement.
