Trump warns Honduras of “hell to pay” if vote count not completed
US President Donald Trump has threatened “hell to pay” for Honduras if officials do not resume counting votes in the country’s presidential election.
“Looks like Honduras is trying to change the results of their Presidential Election. If they do, there will be hell to pay!” Caliber.Az quotes Trump as saying on his Truth Social account.
Honduras held its presidential vote on November 30. Trump noted that the National Electoral Council — the official vote-counting authority — abruptly stopped its work at exactly midnight on election day.
The US president wrote that the race between candidates Tito Asfura and Salvador Nasralla was extremely tight when the count was halted. Asfura was ahead by only 500 votes at the time. "Their tally was stopped when only 47% of the Vote was counted," Trump added.
“It is imperative that the Commission finish counting the Votes. Hundreds of thousands of Hondurans must have their Votes counted. Democracy must prevail!” he added.
Honduras held general elections on November 30, 2025, to elect a president, 128 deputies for the National Congress, and 298 mayors, marking the end of President Xiomara Castro's term (2022–2026). The vote, overseen by the Honduran National Electoral Council (CNE), saw turnout exceed 70%, but was marred by controversies including Trump's vocal support for Asfura, allegations of fraud, and a website crash that halted real-time updates.
