Turkish FM supports diplomatic resolution for Ukrainian conflict during Paris talks
During his official visit to France on April 2, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterated Türkiye's support for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Fidan made the remarks in talks with his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Barrot, in Paris, highlighting the importance of cooperative efforts from all allies to achieve a lasting peaceç Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Fidan emphasized that a sustainable resolution to the conflict would require the agreement of both Russia and Ukraine. He further stressed the necessity of continued diplomatic engagement and close cooperation among international partners to facilitate this process.
The discussions between the two ministers also delved into a wide range of bilateral and regional issues. Fidan underscored the significance of coordinating with non-EU countries in the development of a new security architecture for Europe. He also called on France to work towards eliminating artificial barriers in Türkiye-EU relations, specifically in the context of updating the customs union.
The situation in the Caucasus region, including efforts to ensure peace and stability, was another key topic covered in the talks.
Additionally, Fidan addressed the recent political developments in Türkiye, particularly the detention and arrest of Istanbul's opposition mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu. Fidan described the policy of double standards often applied to Türkiye in discussions surrounding domestic issues as a mistake. Imamoglu was arrested on March 23, 2025, following charges of corruption and alleged terrorist links, which sparked widespread protests across the country, particularly in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir.
The visit reinforced Türkiy's stance on promoting diplomatic solutions to global conflicts while seeking to strengthen bilateral relations with France and the broader European Union.
