Türkiye’s first indigenously developed supersonic jet trainer, HÜRJET, has achieved a significant breakthrough by reaching a speed of Mach 1.2 (approximately 1470 km/h), marking a major step forward in the country’s push for aviation independence.
Haluk Görgün, head of the Defence Industry Agency under the Presidency of Türkiye, announced the milestone on the social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports.
HÜRJET’in süpersonik hıza ulaşması, yalnızca bir mühendislik başarısı değil; Türkiye’nin bağımsız havacılık vizyonunda yeni bir kilometre taşıdır.

Describing the achievement as “not only an engineering feat but also a new milestone in Türkiye’s vision for independent aviation,” Görgün praised the team behind the project.
“Our test pilots have successfully completed this critically important stage in the skies. I sincerely thank them,” he said.
HÜRJET is being developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) as a next-generation trainer jet intended to replace ageing aircraft in the Turkish Air Force’s fleet. The aircraft is expected to play a key role in both pilot training and light combat missions.
Serial production of the HÜRJET is currently underway, with the first deliveries to the Turkish Air Force scheduled for 2026.
