Two people killed by Israeli attack on residential apartment in Damascus Human rights watchdog reports
The opposition rights watchdog Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has reported that at least two people were killed in an early morning attack on a building in Damascus that housed the headquarters and offices of Syrian pro-Iranian forces on February 21.
The organization likened the early morning attack in Damascus, which Syria has attributed to Israel, to the elimination of Hamas deputy politburo chief Saleh al-Arouri, when a drone struck the movement's offices in southern Beirut in early January.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights notes that since the beginning of 2024 it has recorded 13 Israeli attacks on Syria: eight airstrikes and five rocket attacks fired from land.
These attacks destroyed 31 targets, including weapons and ammunition depots, headquarters, centers and vehicles.
Israeli attacks resulted in the death of 33 combatants and the injury of 13 more:
- Eight Syrian pro-Iranian militants,
- Four non-Syrian pro-Iranian militants,
- Seven members of the IRGC,
- Six Hezbollah members
- Three Iraqi citizens
- Five people whose affiliation is unclear.
Moreover, eight civilians, including one woman, were also killed.
The attacks are distributed as follows:
- Damascus and Rif Dimashq: Seven attacks
- Daraa: Five attacks
- Homs: One attack
According to SOHR, Israel sometimes targeted more than one province in a single attack.
