UK unveils new military intelligence services

12 December 2025 15:02

The United Kingdom has launched its new Military Intelligence Services (MIS), whih will consolidate all intelligence units across the British Armed Forces for the first time, bringing together personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force under a unified structure.

This move comes as the UK faces an escalating range of threats, including cyber-attacks, satellite disruptions, global shipping lane threats, and disinformation campaigns, all of which increasingly disrupt daily life and destabilise the economy, Caliber.Az reports via the UK government

The creation of the MIS follows the recommendations made in the UK’s Strategic Defence Review. With an integrated intelligence approach, the government aims to accelerate information gathering, analysis, and sharing, ensuring the UK remains one step ahead of hostile states and terrorist organisations.

Defence Secretary John Healey emphasised the urgency of the move, saying, "as threats increase, we are making defence intelligence smarter."

One of the key features of the new intelligence framework is the formation of the Defence Counter-Intelligence Unit (DCIU). This specialised unit will focus on countering the growing threat posed by hostile intelligence activity, which against the Ministry of Defence (MOD) has surged by over 50% in the past year. This increase highlights the rapid intensification of adversarial efforts aimed at undermining the UK’s security infrastructure.
