Ukraine accuses China of providing satellite data used in Russian strikes

24 December 2025 21:12

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that China may be supplying space-based intelligence to Russia, potentially aiding strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Zelenskyy cited findings from the Head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, Oleh Ivashchenko, highlighting the growing cooperation between Russian and Chinese entities, Caliber.Az reports.

“We are recording increased ties between Russia and entities in China that may be providing space-based intelligence data. Unfortunately, there have been correlations between Chinese satellite imaging of Ukrainian territory and Russian strikes on the corresponding energy infrastructure facilities,” Zelenskyy wrote on X. “We view such cases as activities that enable Russia to prolong the war and make diplomatic efforts less serious.”

The report also noted other security concerns, including Russia’s attempts to evade international sanctions and the deployment of Oreshnik weapons systems in Belarus. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is coordinating with international partners to respond to these threats.

“They are using other temporary owners and numerous fictitious legal schemes. We are tracking all of this and will communicate with our partners to ensure that pressure continues to work and that Russia is prevented from making money for its war through such manipulations," the president wrote on sanctions.

In addition, the Ukrainian president noted the deployment of Oreshnik weapons systems on Belarusian territory, describing the proliferation of such arms as a global threat and stressing that Ukrainian intelligence has shared details with partners to inform defensive measures. He confirmed that Ukraine is preparing response options jointly with international allies.

“Thank you to everyone who is helping Ukraine!” he added.
