Ukrainian ambassador hails Azerbaijan’s $45-million support amid war
Ukraine praises Azerbaijan for providing over $45 million in humanitarian, energy, and infrastructure support since the start of the war, highlighting the symbolic and practical significance of this aid for Ukraine’s resilience and international solidarity.
Yuriy Husyev, Ukraine’s ambassador to Baku, made these remarks in an article marking the fourth anniversary of the Russia–Ukraine war, emphasising that Ukraine highly values Azerbaijan’s stance based on respect for international law, the UN Charter, and the principle of inviolable borders, Caliber.Az reports.
“In today’s world, these are not abstract formulas—they form the foundation of global security. Azerbaijan, having endured a long struggle to restore its own territorial integrity, understands us better than many other countries,” he noted.
He expressed Ukraine’s deep gratitude to international partners for political, humanitarian, economic, and energy support, singling out Azerbaijan for its immediate and ongoing solidarity.
“From the first days of the war, Azerbaijan has provided humanitarian aid to affected regions, sent vital equipment—especially in energy—and supported the restoration of social infrastructure,” Husyev added.
“As of today, the total value of Azerbaijan’s assistance to Ukraine is likely the highest among CIS countries, exceeding $45 million,” he stated.
The ambassador emphasised that the aid has both tangible and symbolic value, showing that Ukraine is not alone and that friends and true brothers stand by the country in difficult times, recognising the importance of freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
He highlighted that the Ukraine–Azerbaijan strategic partnership rests on a strong historical foundation of mutual respect and support, with Kyiv eager to further develop political dialogue, economic cooperation, humanitarian, and cultural ties with Baku.
“Despite the war, Ukraine remains open to cooperation, dialogue, and joint initiatives aimed at strengthening international security. We look forward. Ukraine continues to fight, rebuild, reform, strengthen international partnerships, and will prevail because it defends truth, freedom, and the right to live and develop,” Husyev wrote.
He stressed that stronger international solidarity and active collaboration among states upholding international law will accelerate the arrival of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. Husyev reiterated gratitude to Azerbaijan for its support, friendship, and fraternal assistance during the country’s hardest days.
“We appreciate it. We remember it. And we are confident that our nations have ahead new chapters of expanding strategic partnership, successful and mutually beneficial cooperation, and genuine friendship based on mutual trust, respect, and a shared peaceful and prosperous future,” he concluded.
