Ukraine claims Russian troops suffer losses amid border clashes in Sumy region
Ukrainian officials say Russian forces are attempting to intensify assault operations in border areas of Sumy region, though no breakthrough into deeper Ukrainian territory has been reported.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said in a Telegram statement that an “enemy infiltration zone” had been detected along the border region. He noted that Russian troops were trying to take advantage of early spring vegetation cover in an effort to advance into Ukrainian territory, Caliber.Az reports.
According to Kovalenko, fighting in the area remains intense, but Ukrainian forces have so far prevented any Russian breakthrough into the interior of the region.
He added that Ukrainian defence units are taking measures to stop further expansion of Russian presence in Sumy region and said Russian forces have suffered significant losses during the ongoing clashes.
