Ukraine detains three Russian FSB spies planning terror in Odesa PHOTO
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has prevented a series of planned terrorist attacks in Odesa, detaining three Russian FSB agents who were preparing to detonate the vehicles and homes of Ukrainian servicemen and their families.
The perpetrators intended to remotely detonate improvised explosive devices (IEDs), Caliber.Az reports, citing the SBU's Telegram post.
Through these actions, Russian intelligence aimed not only to eliminate military personnel but also to spread panic among civilians.
The primary targets of the agents were SBU special forces and Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) servicemen participating in combat operations on the southern front. The terrorists had been monitoring the residences and parking locations of the defenders for an extended period.
The suspects received coordinates from the FSB for a stash, from which they collected two IEDs intended to be placed at the entrances of two servicemen’s apartments. Later, they were supposed to retrieve additional IEDs from other caches to bomb the vehicles of subsequent targets.
The SBU acted preemptively and detained the agents while they were traveling with explosives to the homes of Ukrainian servicemen.
According to case materials, the operation for Russia was carried out by three local FSB agents: a 36-year-old draft evader and two accomplices—a deserter and a member of a civic organisation for public order. During the arrest, the authorities seized the IEDs and smartphones, which were used to coordinate actions with a Russian intelligence officer.
Investigators have charged the suspects under the article “state treason committed during martial law.” The perpetrators are held in custody without the right to bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
