Ukraine: Dnipro extends school holidays as city grapples with blackout
08 January 2026 11:27
Schools in Dnipro have extended their winter holidays until January 11 following widespread electricity outages across the city.
The announcement was made by the city authorities via the Telegram channel Strana.ua.
The blackout comes after a series of drone attacks on the evening of January 7, which targeted critical infrastructure in Dnipro, Pavlohrad, Kamianske, Zaporizhzhia and Kryvyi Rih.
As a result, all thermal power plants and substations in the Dnipropetrovsk region were forced to halt operations.
Electric transport services have been suspended, and many residents remain without power. Local energy providers have informed citizens that electricity restoration is expected on January 8.
