Ukraine extends martial law, military mobilization
The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, has approved the extension of martial law and general mobilization for the 12th time, with the new period lasting an additional 90 days.
This extension, effective until November 9, reflects the ongoing state of conflict in the country due to the Russo-Ukrainian war.
The extension was confirmed on July 23, following a decision to prolong the legal regime initially put in place to address the Russian invasion and its impact on Ukrainian sovereignty, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
The measure must now be signed by the President of Ukraine to become official.
The Ukrainian parliament imposed martial law and declared military mobilization in the wake of the conflict with Russia in February 2022, and has extended the measures 11 times since then.
The continued state of martial law and mobilization underscores the persistent security challenges Ukraine faces as it defends against Russian aggression.
Since the conflict began, Ukraine has relied on these measures to mobilize resources, maintain internal order, and coordinate defence efforts amidst a protracted war with Russia.
