Ukraine hits Russian media, key figures with sanctions in major move
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree imposing sanctions on a number of Russian media outlets and individuals.
The new measures were officially announced on the president’s website, marking a significant step in Ukraine's ongoing efforts to counter Russian influence and support its sovereignty, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The sanctions list includes 18 media organisations, among them the News Media Group (which operates popular outlets such as Life, Mash, SHOT, and Super) and News Front, known for its pro-Russian stance. Additionally, the sanctions extend to 71 individuals, including notable figures from various sectors.
Among them are Ukrainian music producer Yuri Bardash, who founded the band "Griby," and Russian TV presenter Arina Sharapova and TV host Alexei Gudoshnikov. The list also targets Russian war correspondents, including Alexander Sladkov, Stanislav Smagin, and Andrei Rudenko, who have been actively involved in reporting from conflict zones.
The sanctions imposed include measures such as asset freezing, revocation of state awards, restrictions on trade operations, prevention of capital flight, suspension of economic and financial obligations, and a ban on media distribution within Ukraine.
"New sanctions steps. We are increasing pressure and blocking the activities of the Russian shadow fleet. The relevant decrees are already on the website. Another decision by the National Security and Defense Council regarding officials is also being prepared. The decree will be issued soon," said President Zelenskyy.
Decree No. 229/2025 introduces sanctions against the Russian shadow fleet and includes an annex listing individuals involved in its operations.
