Ukraine postpones planned “peace summit” with Russia
The Ukrainian presidential office has announced that the anticipated second “peace summit” with Russia, originally scheduled for November, has been postponed.
Daria Zarivna, an advisor to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, confirmed the change, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Zarivna noted that while the summit will not occur as planned, necessary preparatory events should be finalized by November. Currently, thematic conferences addressing specific aspects of the proposed peace formula are ongoing, with the results expected to culminate in a series of communiqués. These key points will serve as the foundation for the upcoming peace plan.
The last thematic conference, focusing on humanitarian issues, will be hosted by Canada on October 30-31. This conference will address critical topics such as the release of prisoners of war, civilian hostages, and the repatriation of children. Zarivna indicated that the exact date for the second summit will be determined following the completion of these thematic discussions.
The first “peace summit” was held in June without Russia’s participation. Following that event, President Zelenskyy expressed a willingness to invite a Russian delegation to the next summit, responding to requests from certain countries. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry has since indicated its reluctance to take part.
Ukraine's approach centers on implementing Zelenskyy's proposed peace formula, which calls for a return to the 1991 borders and the withdrawal of Russian forces from occupied territories.
