Sweden launches new initiative to support Ukraine’s science, research ecosystem
A new international initiative called the Rome Declaration for Science, Research and Innovation in Ukraine was officially launched on July 11 during the Ukraine Recovery Conference held in Italy.
The declaration aims to support the reconstruction and modernisation of Ukraine’s science and research sector by fostering collaboration and innovation. Sweden is among the founding members of the initiative, which intends to provide targeted assistance to Ukrainian scientists and innovators, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Swedish government.
This support includes facilitating joint research projects and promoting Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area.
Sweden’s Minister for Upper Secondary School, Higher Education and Research, Lotta Edholm, emphasized Sweden’s firm commitment to Ukraine. She said the support for Ukrainian scientists sends a clear message of steadfast solidarity and that Ukraine’s participation will strengthen the EU’s research collaboration.
Jessica Rosencrantz, Sweden’s Minister for EU Affairs, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, noting that it is not only an investment in rebuilding Ukraine but also in boosting Europe’s long-term innovation capacity. She expressed pride in Sweden’s role in promoting stronger research cooperation between the EU and Ukraine and underlined the initiative’s contribution to supporting Ukraine on its path towards future EU membership.
