Ukraine prepares two packages for discussion at NATO summit
Ukraine is preparing political and practical cooperation packages in the context of the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, Ukrainian Ambassador to NATO Natalia Galibarenko said.
According to her, the political package, in particular, is about bringing Ukraine-NATO relations to a new institutional basis, European Pravda reports.
"And here we are talking about turning, for example, the current Ukraine-NATO Commission into the Ukraine-NATO Council, which will allow us to make some decisions and discuss certain decisions together with the members of the Alliance, and not separately," the diplomat said.
Galibarenko stressed that the practical package provides that a multi-year plan will be created specifically for Ukraine, which will help further bring Ukraine's interoperability closer.
"We are talking about assistance to the Ukrainian armed forces and we are also talking about a large increase in funding for the now existing comprehensive assistance package," she added.
Galibarenko noted that the sides are considering such projects as humanitarian demining, medical rehabilitation and a gradual transition to NATO-standard weapons, which will also include the conduct and continuation of drills and training for the Ukrainian military.
To recap, the leaders of Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Ukraine, Finland and Sweden, following the summit in Helsinki on May 17, issued a joint statement supporting the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine.
Following the summit of Ukraine and the Nordic states, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine should become the next NATO member after Sweden joins the Alliance.
