Ukraine's FM: Talks on fast-track EU membership continue
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, has confirmed that discussions over the country’s accelerated entry into the European Union are ongoing.
Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv alongside the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Sybiha said recent security meetings in Munich and talks involving President Zelenskyy had reinforced the importance of the issue, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
“We have a certain understanding, but there is also resistance to this approach,” he said, highlighting that Hungary’s stance is “short-sighted” and currently blocks Ukraine’s efforts in this area.
At the same time, Sybiha stressed that Europe recognises Ukraine’s strategic importance. He added that fast-track membership would require clear timelines and deadlines.
“Our EU membership, for Ukraine and beyond, is an element of future infrastructure security, safety guarantees, and a strategic choice for our people,” he said, noting that Ukraine is actively implementing reforms and is prepared to meet all membership criteria.
