Ukraine's new PM prioritises defence industry expansion

Ukraine's newly appointed Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky has declared that the government's top priority will be ensuring the full supply of the country's Defence Forces and expanding Ukraine's defence-industrial complex.

In a statement published on Telegram, Koretsky said he was assuming office with clearly defined priorities, Caliber.Az reports.

"Our main task is the full provision of the Defence Forces of Ukraine and the scaling up of Ukraine's defence-industrial complex. We will do everything possible to ensure that Ukrainian soldiers have sufficient capabilities and resources for every long-range operation, every precision strike, and the defence of positions on the front line: drones of all types, ground robotic systems, modern equipment and weapons," he noted.

The new prime minister added that the government would immediately begin active preparations for the winter season while continuing to support Ukrainian citizens and businesses.

"It is our duty to fulfill all of the state's social obligations by ensuring the timely payment of pensions, social assistance and the financing of key public services," Koretsky added.

He noted that the challenges facing frontline communities, which continue to suffer daily from Russian attacks, would also remain a central focus of the government.

Strengthening cooperation with international partners, attracting additional resources and ensuring the most effective use of international assistance will remain among the Cabinet's priorities as well.

"Our strategic course remains unchanged — Ukraine's full membership in the European Union. We are getting to work," Koretsky concluded.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was among the first international leaders to congratulate him on taking office.

"Congratulations, Sergii Koretsky, on your confirmation as Prime Minister. We look forward to continuing our excellent cooperation with Ukraine. We are confident that you will place Ukraine's European integration at the heart of the country’s transformation effort. You can count on our full support as you advance your ambitious reform agenda. Notably in the areas of the rule of law, energy and other key sectors of the economy.," von der Leyen remarked.
