Ukraine arrests fake-news bloggers leaking military information PHOTO
Ukraine’s Security Service (SSU) has uncovered new cases of unauthorised dissemination of information on the deployment and operations of Ukrainian Defence Forces across the country, charging four pseudo-bloggers for illegally sharing such sensitive details via social media.
In Cherkasy, counterintelligence officers detained a 50-year-old man who, during air raid alerts, recorded Ukrainian air defence activity and posted videos on Telegram. He also spread fake news about Ukrainian prisoners and attempted to justify Russian actions, Caliber.Az reports, citing SSU.
In Mykolaiv, SSU military counterintelligence blocked the spread of information about Ukrainian troop movements in the south. The suspect, a 31-year-old contract serviceman, had posted video footage of his unit’s movements on TikTok.
In the Donetsk region, a 37-year-old resident of Sloviansk, evading mobilisation, was arrested for posting geolocations of Ukrainian positions on the Kramatorsk front via his YouTube channel, which had over 11,000 subscribers.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a 34-year-old Viber group administrator was exposed for sharing coordinates of Ukrainian checkpoints and temporary deployment points.
During searches, authorities seized computers and mobile devices containing evidence of criminal activity.
All four suspects have been charged under multiple articles of Ukraine’s Criminal Code. They face up to eight years in prison and confiscation of property.
